Primary System:
SOPHIA
Windows 10
48gb ram, 48tb over 12 physical drives, GTX 1060, 3.7ghz i7
My main machine, codenamed Sophia (ancient greek for clever, wise, skill full in handicraft and art) handles pretty much whatever I can dream up. It regularly handles graphic design, motion graphics, video editing, vfx, and multichannel audio production, and 64bit multicore synthesis. This machine remains offline for security and privacy purposes.
–
Mobile System
“Theseus”
Windows 10
This system is used as my out-of-studio machine for multi-track recording sessions and live performance. It has also served as a backup production machine when Sophia is rendering or in maintenance.
–
Midi Brain
“Moirai”
A VERY old laptop running windows xp, and some outdate music software such as Rebirth, Max/MSP 4 & 5, Jeskola Buzz, and other. Primarily, this serves as a midi brain, pre Ableton Link. On the occasions when I have multiple systems synced, or running clock experiments on multiple instruments and computer systems, this has been the central core of everything.
–
Casual System
“Perseus”
Mac osx
This small macbook pro is by far the lightest and slimmest of my laptops, making it ideal for hanging out on the couch, note taking, organization and casual usage. There is also a very barebones experimental music production setup using vcv, sonic pi, orca, and max/msp.
–
Pirate System
“Hermes”
Ubuntu
This outdated laptop used to be used for live performance until I decided to learn more about alternative operative systems. Permanently cloaked by a VPN, Hermes, messenger of the gods, serves as the ideal solution for torrenting, the hosting of my movie and music library via WD Mycloud, and as an experimental Retropie setup to test out games before sending to the Rasberry Pi build.
–
Nostalgia System
“Orpheus”
Windows xp
A few years ago I was going through my CD archive and realized I had a ton of games and software that was 32bit only, or did not work on windows 10. This led me to building up Orpheus out of an old laptop that had many problems and came with (shudder) windows vista. This laptop allows my younger brother and I to replay games we did in childhood. It has been a blast revisiting for nostalgia purposes.
–
Retropie
Raspberian
With the help of Hermes and Archive.org, Retropie can be installed on a raspberry with ease. I’ve placed 16,000 games from the first arcade systems, all the way through Nintendo 64 on a micro sd card, allowing endless exploration and old favorites to be revisited.
–
Nerd Badge
“Ninnion”
Nexus 7 Tablet
Largest claim as a nerd I have so far. Rooted an old Nexus 7 tablet and replaced the default android system with a copy of Ubuntu Touch. This off the wall version of linux made for mobile devices, pretty much allows for a full featured system of ubuntu in a portable tablet fashion.
–
Studio Controller
“Morta”
Galaxy S9 Android CyanogenMod
Decided to make use out of an old android phone that was collecting dust after moving to an iphone. I had a ton of amazing tools and apps in the android ecosystem that I used, so, decided to keep it as an offline studio controller. Using TouchOSC, Lemur, and a handful of strange tools from the Google Store.
–
My Phone
“Prometheus”
iOS iphone 12 pro max
Initially reluctant to move to an Apple Device, my love, Veronica found an amazing deal on some new iphones after our androids became a bit slow and unstable. It has been wonderful exploring the ecosystem of ios with some far more polished tools than on the google store.
